Week 1 start weight: 9st 8lbs
I wrote about my new years resolutions in my last post and one of them was to get fit and sort my body out. I joined my local gym just before New Year in an effort to start feeling good about my body.
I know I'm not fat, but I'm really out of shape and whenever I look in the mirror I always grimace at my stomach. What took me to joining the gym was standing in a fitting room in New Look and thinking "I can't go wedding dress shopping like this, this isn't the body I want at all".
My aims are to loose a little weight but mainly to tone up, especially around my stomach area. My target weight would be the lower end of 8st, as this was around the weight I was when I started university in 2009, and that was the last time I didn't have any issues with how my body looked.
This week I have started using the MyFitnessPal app again to keep track of how much and what I'm eating, as I know I was eating extremely bad and far too much, especially over Christmas! I made my first visit to the gym on Friday 30th December to get my induction out of the way before all of the other newbies joining for resolutions (I was the only one on the induction so that was definitely a good call!) and I've visited the gym 3 times this week. My gym plan is as so (but could be subject to change):
Monday: General day/all over fitness
Thursday: Focus on lower half of the body and go to Legs, Bums & Tums class
Friday: Focus on upper half of the body including abs
Monday went well although I didn't feel too much of a burn afterwards but I was more getting to grips with the gym and the layout of the equipment. On Thursday I focused on my legs and I really enjoyed the LBT class so I will definitely be going back to that. On Friday (today) I focussed on the upper half of my body and I attended the Abs class, but I didn't enjoy this one so much because I felt the instructor was too 'army-like' and shouting countdowns at us and you couldn't hear him over the music. I also felt this particular class was a bit too intense for me at this stage, so I'm trying the same class again next week but with the same instructor I have for LBT and see if I prefer that.
I am definitely aching a lot today after the gym, I gave it a bit more effort today as I've come down with a rotten cold (which will get worse over the weekend, I just know it) and I wanted to plough my way through the exercises, which did make me feel better until I got home and started flagging! So this weekend I'm giving myself plenty of rest ready for getting back to the gym on Monday :)
It would probably be also worth mentioning here that on Tuesday I started physiotherapy for my left knee. It is believed that I have 'Anterior Knee Pain' - I will probably do another blog post on that some other time but my physiotherapist has given me some stretches and exercises to do to help with the pain and movement in my knee. Whenever I've done the classes this week the instructors have always given me even more tips on how to help my knee, which is much appreciated!
My Favourite Song/Album To Workout To:
I will also be including in these weekly updates what my favourite songs/albums to listen to in the gym are, so here is this weeks;

Night Driver - Busted - I've found the 80s vibes from this record are really motivational in the gym! I don't think there is a slow tempo song to be honest... |
I'll be back next week with another update :)
