How I Coped Without A Bra
Saturday, July 12, 2014Ok, I've pretty much FAILED on the blog part. I'm sorry I've been away and didn't finish the Disneybound Challenge on here, although you can see the last few days on my Instagram (@beckiieeoldham)
Anyway, this blog post is one I've had in mind for a while. I thought I would write it as until recently I never thought I would be able to do this ever in my life! If you have been following this blog from the start, you will be aware I underwent gallbladder surgery at the end of April. As a result of this and a pretty big scar right over my breastbone, I was unable to wear a bra for a number of weeks!
I'm one of those girls who never believed I would be able to get away with not wearing a bra. I have always been too shy and too paranoid to not wear one (for obvious reasons!). After my operation I was forced to not wear my lovely bras as they would rub and catch on my wound :(
So how did I do it? Keep reading to find out...
1. Wear thick, baggy t-shirts
2. Wear a hoodie
I had to buy quite a few of these as I realised I didn't really own any t-shirt style hoodies. I own a few thick hoodies but it wasn't cold enough to wear them! I managed to find some in H&M which turned out to be a bit thin, but did the job.
3. Invest in lots of plasters
As I struggled to find nipple covers that were not the kinky kind, I had to make do with plasters. Not the waterproof ones as they didn't like to stay on a curve (if you get what I mean), whereas the fabric ones stayed a lot better. Yes, they do hurt when you pull them off, but they are a cheaper form of nipple covers. This is what I did the most whilst being unable to wear a bra.
4. ...and then buy lots of nipple covers! (which incidentally, are very hard to find)
The ones above are the exact ones that I have! When I found them (these in Marks & Spencers), I bought quite a few packs! As you don't get so many for your money, I'm going to save these for occasions such as wearing dresses where you cannot wear a bra. These are extremely comfortable to wear and feel and look invisible!
5. Wear a bandeau bra
These I found a bit irritating as they wouldn't stay up! I only started wearing these when the scabs had fell off of my wounds as I was worried that they may rub against them. I have to say, because I was constantly having to hoist them back up, I didn't wear these so much.
I also made sure that I was still appropriately dressed for the few lessons I had to teach whilst not wearing a bra. Otherwise it could have gone disastrously!
What I could have done:
- wear tops with built-in support
- layers!
What I made sure not to do:
- wear light and see-through fabrics
- obvious really
- wear a top with a very low neckline
- I'm not on holiday
Hopefully this post will have given you some tips on how to go bra-less. Remember to also be confident about it! I didn't have a choice in the matter, but I am now much more confident about not wearing a bra every single day of the week and can give my boobies a rest! :)
